The first time the name of Elizabeth Edwards came into my world was when her husband John was running for the Presidency in 2004. I immediately liked her feistiness, her strength, her devotion to her husband and children, and her imperfections.
Over the years, I have grown to admire her more for her inner strength, her determination, her love of family, and her desire to carry on despite the adversities of cancer and scandal. I cannot imagine battling the war on cancer with all eyes on you; watching your reactions, your appearance, judging your every decision, guessing how much time you have left. She was grace under pressure.
Imagine having to battle cancer or any other life-threatening disease with so many eyes on you, having to cope with the fear, the doubts, the pain with every appearance, every decision scrutinized by the media and millions of people.
Elizabeth has passed on from this life. Her final days kept as private as they could be considering her public life. She died with dignity, in her home surrounded by those who loved her most. I pray she found comfort and peace in her last days, hours and moments.
