The eldest of the Baby Boom generation starts turning 65 today.
We know that most of these boomers won’t be retiring any time soon because their savings, pensions, and stock options aren’t what they once were; we know that many of them don’t have an empty nest, as a shaky economy brings more children (and grandchildren) “home.” We know that many boomers are rightly concerned that they are leaving a world more crowded, complicated, and troubled than the world they inherited from their parents.
If the future is endlessly challenging for this introspective and activist generation, it is also filled with transformative medical, social, and technological breakthroughs that provide more options than ever before for staying well, staying active, staying connected, and staying relevant and useful to society.
So here’s to you, early Baby Boomers. The future is still in your hands.
