“Go Take a Hike!”

This may be the best piece of advice anyone can give you.

Walking is good for your body:

·        It makes your heart pump stronger, your blood pressure decrease, and your overall cardiovascular well-being improve. It is invaluable for rehabilitation after heart attacks and heart surgeries with proper medical supervision.

·        It will decrease your blood sugar levels and appetite and promote weight loss.

·        It is less stressful on your joints than more jarring exercises can be and improves muscle strength.

·        It also helps to decrease stress levels. It benefits brain power, improves your mood and helps ward off depression.

·        It can promote a deeper connection with your spiritual side.

·        It has been proven that those who walk regularly have lower rates of breast cancer and colon cancer.

·        And now, new studies have indicated that walking may also stop your memory from deteriorating in your later years.  The studies demonstrated that regular exercise of walking 6-9 miles a week preserved brain health and memory as aging occurs.

If your weather is inclement, grab a comfortable set of shoes, a bottle of water, and take a walk at your local mall, high school track, or wellness center.
